24th Annual Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast

Featured Speaker – Mayor Mickey Straub, Mayor of Burr Ridge, Illinois – Author of 50 Capitals in 50 Days

Thursday, November 15th marked the 24th annual Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast, hosted by the Washington Chamber of Commerce. It was an inspirational morning for the 240 guests who attended the program, held at Countryside Banquet Facility.

This year’s emcee, Adam Kipp, of Grace Bible Church, welcomed the crowd warmly and energetically. Joe Russell, Russell’s Cycling & Fitness, was on hand to open the morning with an invocation, followed by a musical selection performed byWhitney Ramirez and Nick Schone, members of Connect Church. Pastor Evan Williams, Sunnyland Christian Church, led the community prayer and scripture reading following Mayor Gary Manier’s mayor’s message.

Guest speaker for the morning, Mayor Mickey Straub, mayor of Burr Ridge, Illinois, was welcomed to the stage after a second musical selection. Mayor Straub took the audience on capsulated version of his quest to visit all 50 state capitols in 50 days – a feat which he actually accomplished in 44 days, driving a 1997 Lincoln Towncar. His goal was to discover if God was still in the capitols. Along the way, he found that God is present, sometimes more visible than others, but always there somewhere. At the end of his journey, in Springfield, Illinois, he found that his new mission was to put God first, family next, and country after.

The Washington Chamber of Commerce and Mayor Manier would like to thank everyone who attended and everyone who participated in the program. Special thanks go to this year’s platinum sponsors: Busey Bank; Heartland Bank and Trust Company; Uftring Chevy Washington; Washington Community Bank; and the Washington Ministerial Association. Thanks also to gold sponsors MTCO Communications; and Villas of Holly Brook, along with silver sponsors LeBakery on the Square and McDonald’s. Thank you to Countryside Banquet Facility for providing the delicious food and service. Thank you to LeFleur Floral Designs and Events for the winter cactus centerpieces (which a lucky person at each table was invited to take home with them). Thank you to Connect Church for providing the audio and visual equipment and technical support. Be sure to mark your calendars for the next Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast on Thursday, November 21, 2019.
